Some legends
how are you? I hope all very well !!
For me, something that is important, it’s to know why some idiomatic usages also exist in the Italian language! E.g. do you know why it is unlucky if you break an oil bottle?…
Because the oil and the wine, during the ancient Roman times, were very expensive.
Noble women used the oil after their bath and , if a slave broke a bottle, the noble woman would cut off the hand of the slave.
So, that’s why it’s unlucky! You break a bottle and off goes the hand !!

My dear, it’s not only the broken bottle of oil that is an unlucky superstition…. I now about a lot of other things that maybe a big problem for many superstitious people….. E.g. do you know about the finger nails? If you cut them and let them fall down on the floor you could have an unlucky surprise….. and what could you tell me about opening an umbrella in the house? It could be very dangerous….. >I also heard about how very dangerous it could be to sweep after sunrise….. Have you an idea about the origins of these superstitions?
I heard of them from my greek relatives….. do you think that also the Italian people believe in them?
Please let me know…. I am so curious….. thanks

Hi,
have you ever heard of what you do with spilt salt ? In Italy when someone spills salt the person takes some the salt and throws it over the left shoulder.
Do people in other countries do the same ?
Why do we do this ?

Hello to everyone!
Do you know why there is the custom to dip two fingers of the right hand into the spill wine and to touch the back of your neck for good luck?
Why is a bad luck to break a mirror?
Why is putting the bread upside down on the table bad luck?
